What is Naturopathy?

Naturopathy offers a holistic approach to wellness. It aims to help you on an emotional, mental and physical level. The goal is to promote wellbeing through the whole person, rather than just symptomatic relief.

That’s right I don’t get my cauldron out and start throwing everything into it, like some of my friends think I do!

What is naturopathy and how does it work?

Naturopathy educates you about diet and lifestyle and how yours may be impacting your life.

There is an emphasis on prevention, by empowering and motivating you to take responsibility for your own health.

To achieve optimum emotional, mental and physical health, naturopaths draw upon:

  • Nutrition

  • Herbal Medicine

  • Pathology

  • Vitamin and Mineral therapy

  • Other modalities (these will vary depending on your practitioner)

What to expect when you book an appointment with a naturopath?

Usually, your first appointment with a naturopath will be the longest, at around an hour.

In my appoints I ask a lot of questions during these initial consultations. This allows me to get a detailed history including operations, hospitalisations and family history.

I will cover body systems such as bowel, reproductive immune and musculoskeletal (depending on what you need help with). We’ll also discuss your energy levels, quality of sleep and emotional wellbeing.

I will look at your tongue and nails as these can tell a story of their own! I also get an idea of your eating and lifestyle habits.

What are the next steps after your initial naturopathy consultation?

At the end of the appointment, I will provide you with a plan specific to your needs.

This will include diet and lifestyle recommendations as well as herbal and nutritional supplements that may be needed.  It will be explained why these recommendations are necessary and when you can expect to see some change occur.
